Technology

MSPA endeavors to keep members informed of technology issues as they impact the profession. It is important that school psychologists remain apprised of how technology impacts our functions and responsibilities and how to use technology appropriately. It is also important that we know how to access the most valuable resources online and understand that not all information online is trustworthy. Particularly relevant resources for our work will be included in this section.

Assistive Technology Training

The Assistive Technology Training Online Project (ATTO) provides information on AT applications that help students with disabilities learn in elementary classrooms. Basic information is provided as well as tutorials and opportunities to practice with various products that your school may have purchased. Interesting exercises for AT decision-making and resources are spotlighted. This resource was developed by the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Buffalo and was supported by a US Department of Education grant.

Copywrite and Fair Use of Information

The University of Maryland University College, Information and Library Services offers an interesting article on copyright and fair use of information found online. Copyright protections cover material found online and this information will help users of the Internet make informed decisions.

Email at Work

Most professionals who work in schools have access to email and the Internet. Charles Muhl (2003) explains that employers have good reason to be concerned about employees’ personal use of email and the Internet while on the job.
